We live in New York City, in a diverse, safe, and vibrant neighborhood.

We met through an online dating site over nine years ago, and we pretty much knew we were meant for each other by the third date. We recently celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary!

We value and celebrate diversity in our friendships and in our family.

We consider ourselves to be incredibly lucky to have met each and live wonderful, full lives with fulfilling and fun careers, lots of smart, hilarious and interesting friends, and a huge, supportive extended family network.

We both have exceptionally satisfying careers. Lydia’s an attorney at a start up company that is growing by leaps and bounds and is a leader in its field. Robert’s a design director at a highly respected digital agency. He leads teams that build websites and apps for a wide variety of big companies, government agencies, and nonprofits. We’re both well established in our respective fields.

Fortunately, our careers permit us to live wonderful lives. We both have worked hard to earn the luxury of financial security.

Our work is important to us, but we make fun, family, and friends a HUGE priority. We often spend our vacation time traveling with family. We have siblings and cousins we love to spend time with, and they all have children we adore.

Travel is something we LOVE--experiencing new places and cultures is really important to us. In the time that we’ve known each other, we’ve been lucky enough to travel to many beautiful, exotic, and historically significant places. We’ve been to South Africa, Hawaii, Spain, Australia, Guatemala, and Portugal on our own, and we were lucky enough to go on a two-week to trip to Italy and France with Lydia’s entire family – there were 15 of us traveling together! We often get out of the city on the weekend; hiking through a beautiful forest brings us such joy and peace. There are so many gorgeous places to get out in nature within a couple of hours away. We also get away for weekend trips pretty frequently. Some favorite weekend getaways for us have been to Charleston and New Orleans! Every few months we rent a house in upstate New York for a weekend.

We also love to ski and snowboard. (Lydia’s a really good snowboarder and Robert can almost keep up with her when he’s on skis.) We just returned from a gorgeous trip to Vail, Colorado with Lydia’s brother's family, where we had amazing snow — and we even went dogsledding! We especially love to take our nieces and nephews out on the mountain. They’re just learning to ski and it’s so fun to watch them challenge themselves. Lydia especially can’t wait to bring a little one out on the mountain to snowboard!

Robert has a big heart and is incredibly loving and generous. Everyone who meets Robert thinks he’s hilarious and smart. All of our nieces and nephews adore Robert because of his joyful combination of kindness, patience, and fun. Robert also loves music (he used to be a music journalist and DJ) and is one of the craziest dancers I know. Robert will be a wonderful father and I can’t wait to share the experience of parenting with him.

Lydia is one of the most energetic, organized, thoughtful, and entertaining people I’ve ever met. There’s no such thing as running out of conversation with Lydia. Almost everyone loves her immediately because she’s funny, has a great attitude, and is genuinely interested in getting to know people. Lydia loves the arts and she always knows what’s going on in theater and film.

But more than anything else, she loves cute, fluffy animals – particularly dogs (especially corgis) and pandas. I know that Lydia will make a great mother, because she’s incredibly capable and has a solid moral foundation. Lydia was raised in a home with lots of love, support, and consistency, and she’s ready and able to provide the same sort of loving and secure environment for a child.

Our Families

Robert grew up with parents who encouraged him to be intellectually curious, politically aware and active, highly empathetic, and to live a meaningful and moral life. Robert’s mom was a nurse and his dad was a doctor, and they both passed away several years ago. Robert’s grandmother, meanwhile, only recently passed away at the age of 104! Robert’s parents got divorced when he was quite young, but his father remarried, expanding his family to include two step-sisters, who each have beautiful families with five children, ranging from 4 to 16 years old.

Robert is very close to his sister,  who has a beautiful 5 year-old daughter. Robert and Lydia also spend a good amount of time with Robert's aunt and uncle who live nearby – they are fascinating, loving, and successful people who’ve been together for over 50 years. Robert’s aunt, uncle, and cousins have been a second family for him since he was a little boy.

Lydia’s parents were happily married for 52 years. She was very close to both of them, until they each recently passed away. She has two older brothers; both have been happily married for many years. One brother and his wife have two children. Her other brother and his wife have three children. We spend a lot of time with both families. We quite often vacation with them, and spend most holidays with them. It has been a joy to watch our nephews and nieces grow up. They’re so much fun!

All of our family and friends are incredibly supportive of our wish to adopt a baby, and they are looking forward to meeting the newest member of our family.

Our goal is for our child to be happy, curious, kind, empathetic, and self-confident. Our home will be filled with joy and security. We will encourage our child to explore his or her natural passions and talents. We believe that a great education is the foundation for a child’s future and our plan is to provide the best possible education. We will provide a secure and stable home for our child. We will be supportive and have enough structure so that he or she can learn to be a good person, friend, and citizen. Our home is already filled with fun and laughter, and we know that a child would love to join us! We have so much love to give and are ready to share our loving home with a child. We also have so many family members and friends who are ready to love and welcome a child.

We currently live in a lovely apartment in Manhattan, but we’re looking to move to a larger apartment in order to make even more room for a baby. We are targeting specific safe and vibrant neighborhoods that are especially family friendly and near the best schools.

We consider ourselves lucky to live in New York City, with a diverse, interesting, and smart group of friends who enrich our lives. Of course, many of our friends have kids of their own (including lots of newborns and toddlers), and we look forward to hanging out with them with our new little one!

We can’t wait to start a family and share our home and lives with a little one! We are committed to being the best parents we can be. More than anything, we want you to know that we will love your child unconditionally. We both believe that whatever else we do in our lives, raising children will be our priority. We plan to approach parenting as a team effort by sharing our love and using our complementary skills. We value the chance to live through example, with mutual respect, so that our child may learn to be a strong and determined individual. We would be happy to send you pictures and updates of your child to share the milestones in their life, and possibly arrange visits, if you wish.
